Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving leaving Golden State Warriors with few answers on defense

Through the first two games of the NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson earned plenty of praise for his ability to harass Kyrie Irving, force the Cavaliers' starting point guard into difficult shots and keep him below his lofty expectations.

But Irving vowed to study the film before Game 3 and found some areas where he could attack.

After back-to-back explosions, ones reminiscent of last year's series, Irving has left the Warriors scrambling on defense again, searching for answers that may not even exist.

"Our defense was better the first two games, but sometimes it's just whether the shot goes in or not," Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. "(Irving) was brilliant the last two games, brilliant. And we got to do a little better job on him. But there's only so much you can do against certain guys. So we'll try our best to make things a little tougher on him, with full awareness that he may go for 40 again."

In the first two games at Oracle Arena, Irving averaged 21.5 points on 18-of-45 (40 percent) from the field.

Thompson's combination of length, athleticism, strength and quickness seemed to have Irving out of rhythm, unable to finish around the basket while struggling to shoot over the top from the outside. Irving cited nerves and an overall hesitancy.
